Overview of the Topeka Youth Project
Mission, History, and Values:
The Topeka Youth Project operates with a clear mission to identify and cultivate the untapped potential within the youth of Topeka, empowering them to achieve extraordinary accomplishments. This mission reflects a deep belief in the capabilities of young people and a commitment to providing them with the resources and support necessary to thrive.
Founded in 1982, the Topeka Youth Project has a long and dedicated history of serving the young people of the community. The organization's inaugural initiative was the "Jobs for Young Adults" program. This program was specifically designed to assist Topeka youth in securing and maintaining employment, with a particular focus on helping them navigate the challenges of their very first job. Over the years, this foundational program has positively impacted the lives of thousands of young individuals in the Topeka area.
Current Programs and Target Audience:
The primary program offered by the Topeka Youth Project is a "Job Coaching" initiative. This program is specifically designed to equip young individuals between the ages of 15 and 21 with the essential skills and knowledge required to successfully find, secure, and retain employment.
The curriculum encompasses various crucial aspects of the job search and workplace success, including exploring different job opportunities that align with individual interests, developing effective resumes that highlight their strengths and experiences, mastering essential interview skills to make a positive impression on potential employers, and cultivating valuable workplace skills that contribute to long-term career growth.
This program is offered free of charge to eligible youth, making it an accessible resource for any young person in the community, but especially those who may face financial barriers to accessing such training.
